Homeowners: Sarah & James, Bristol | Theme: Natural Textures
The Brief
Sarah and James had a perfectly fine bedroom. White walls, a grey bed frame, blackout blinds. It was tidy, but it felt like a hotel room — and not the good kind. Sarah wanted warmth, softness, and something that felt handmade and human. James just wanted to stop feeling like he was sleeping in a show home.
The Vision
Natural textures were the answer: linen, rattan, jute, and wood. The idea was to build a room that felt like it had been collected over time — not bought in one afternoon. Earthy, layered, and deeply restful.
The Transformation
They swapped the polyester duvet cover for a washed linen set in warm oat. A rattan bedside table replaced the flat-pack MDF one. A large woven wall hanging — handmade, with fringe detail — went above the headboard. A jute runner was laid across the foot of the bed. Finally, two framed botanical prints from Nur & Form were hung either side of the window, bringing the outside in.

The Result
The room now feels like a retreat. James admitted it first: "I actually look forward to going to bed now. It sounds ridiculous but the room just feels different." Sarah calls it their "slow living corner."
Tips for You
- Mix at least three different textures — smooth, woven, and rough — for a room that feels rich without being busy.
- Linen bedding creases beautifully; embrace it rather than ironing it flat.
- A woven wall hanging above the bed replaces a headboard and adds instant warmth.
