Weekend Warrior: A Hallway Makeover in 48 Hours

Weekend Warrior: A Hallway Makeover in 48 Hours

Homeowners: Tom & Lucy, Leeds | Theme: DIY Improvements

The Brief

Tom and Lucy's hallway was the room every guest saw first — and it was doing them no favours. A coat pile on the floor, a broken hook, and walls that hadn't been touched since they moved in. They gave themselves one weekend and a £300 budget to fix it.

The Vision

A hallway that felt like a proper welcome: warm, styled, and functional. They wanted a console table, a mirror, a gallery wall, and a runner rug — the classic hallway formula, done well.

The Transformation

Saturday morning: walls painted in warm white (Dulux Jasmine White). Afternoon: a slim console table from a charity shop, sanded and painted in soft black. Sunday: a round mirror hung above the console. A gallery wall of four framed prints from Nur & Form was arranged to the left of the mirror — geometric patterns in warm neutrals. A striped runner rug was laid on the wooden floor. New brushed brass coat hooks were fitted above the console.

The Result

The hallway now sets the tone for the whole house. Lucy says: "People walk in and immediately say 'oh, this is lovely.' It took us 48 hours. I wish we'd done it years ago."

Tips for You

  • Paint first, style second — always. Wet paint and new furniture don't mix.
  • A round mirror above a console is the hallway formula that never fails.
  • Charity shop furniture + a tin of paint = designer results on a budget.
